The Charlie and the Chocolate Factory musical will open on Broadway next year, with performances beginning March 28, 2017 at the Lunt Fontanne Theatre in New York City. The story for this theatrical project comes from Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s book. This is the second teaser trailer produced by the Broadway advertising agency AKA NYC and released today by the show’s official social media channels. The premise of the teaser is to show glimpses of Willy Wonka making his way through the streets of New York City, bringing in a world of “Pure Imagination.”
Entertainment Weekly: “Two-time Tony winner Christian Borle will step into the candy man’s shoes for the Broadway version of the musical that debuted in London’s West End in 2013. The musical will reunite the creative team behind Hairspray on Broadway: director Jack O’Brien and musical collaborators Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.”
According to TIME, two songs from the 1971 Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory film adaptation will be included in this show: “Pure Imagination” and “The Candy Man.” The opening date has been set for April 23, 2017. Tickets will be made available to the general public starting September 16, 2016 (via TheaterMania).
